I wanted to pop in and catch you up on a couple things. First of all, one of my all-time most treasured prayer warriors reached out to me after my last post to inquire whether my contemplating the afterlife had to do with my expecting to see it sooner rather than later.
Firm no on that one. Many of you know that I’ve had moments when it appeared I might well be hitting that point, and early spring 2021 that seemed to be the case more than ever. A year later? I’m significantly improved and holding steady. I do have to be careful, I can’t do everything I would like to do, but there is no particular indication at this time that my demise is imminent.
—> I really truly was just experimenting the other day with the contemplation of Heaven as a Catholic Mind Trick to distract myself from the kinds of thoughts that lead us to the confessional if we allow them free reign.
So breathe easy on that one, and also one of these days I’ll write more about the eminently practical reasons why preparing for death is a good way to live your life more fully.
Meanwhile, I’ve got a prayer request for you that is related to my being a pure, unfettered fun hog: I’m taping with The Journey Home this week!
Specific requests:
Safe travel to and from. For health reasons I’m driving instead of flying, one of the several precautions we’ve taken to make this workable.
No crazy mortifying idiot-moments. I am the kind of person who will totally spill a drink down my shirt, sheesh. (Spare shirt packed!) If we could just not entertain the film crew quite so much, that would be fantastic.
That I would say whatever it is God wants me to say, and ideally in a way that involves me articulately communicating cogent thoughts. (See: We Are Not Here To Be *That* Kind Of Memorable.)
That everyone stays healthy. Again, The Journey Home team is on top of this and so am I, but we aren’t omnipotent.
For good visits with some very dear friends I’m meeting up with afterwards.
Yes guys, I am a huge fan of the Litany of Humility? But there are limits. So if you could intercede on my behalf for a smooth and uneventful trip, that would be great.
No idea what direction we’ll be taking the conversation, but I’m looking forward to it. In preparation I watched a few episodes with other Catholic Reverts and found hearing the witness of other believers to be very edifying.
Okay and also tear-jerking. Alas, I cry at the drop of a hat, especially when it comes to the topic of God’s goodness. So if anyone wants to take on the specific job of praying that my waterproof eyeliner really does stay in place that would be fantastic. I’ve pre-tested it, but still.
Thank you!
Awesome! Lord God, give Jen everything she needs to share your goodness with the people you love!
Wonderful! Keeping your intentions in my prayers. Be real, be you!
